Determining When to Replace Your Garage Door Weather Stripping
Weatherstripping is a product made out of vinyl trim or strip that lines your garage door’s side and bottom jambs. It is used to seal the inside air in, and the outside air out. It protects the integrity of the door and the surface into which it comes into contact. When it is in top condition, it will help to keep your energy bills in line.

Check Your Weather Stripping Condition
As a general rule of thumb, it is recommended to inspect the condition of the garage door weather stripping at least twice a year. These are the steps to determine if they need to be replaced.
Close the door completely and take a look at the edges of the door. Next, examine the areas between the side jambs and the door. Also, check the section that lines the bottom of your garage door. You will need to replace the weatherstripping if you notice one of the following signs.
- Light coming through
- Feeling the breeze from outside or any air going out or in
- Any pieces or sections missing, cracking, flaking, or brittle in texture
